ACCESS STATEMENT FOR BERWICK GUEST HOUSE
Introduction
We aim to cater various needs of visitors to our Guest House.
The following statement is a detailed description of the facilities we offer enabling readers to make an informed decision. If you have any further questions please call us and we will always do our best to help you.
Pre-Arrival
The nearest train station is Honiton which is approximately 15 minutes by car (also served by a stagecoach bus route 52b). This train line runs from London Waterloo to Penzance.
Please ask if you need to be picked up from a bus station.
Exeter has an airport and taxi facilities.
Local taxis are available and we would be happy to book this in advance for you.
Breakfast menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.
Car Parking/Grounds
For guests arriving in the evening there is lighting above the front door, on the corner of the house and sensor lights to the side and back of the property.
On arrival at the property, there are four marked car parking spaces at the front and room for two further cars at the rear of the property.
The surface is level and gravelled and there is a chip slated and terracotta matt tiled footpath leading from the car park to the front door.
There is a pedestrian access from Salcombe Road which is paved with terracotta matt tiles. This may be used for those guests arriving on foot. This leads to the front door.
We are very happy to assist our guests with their luggage.
The town centre is just a five minute walk on level ground.
Main House
There is one step up at the main entrance of 190mm.
The door is 880mm wide.
The entrance hall flooring is old pine boards which lead to the dining room and the stairs rising which has short pile carpet. There are 10 stairs each of 180 mm leading to the first landing with one more step up of 120 mm before the entrances to Rooms 3 and 4.
There are a further three stairs each of 180 mm leading to Rooms 1 and 2.
Dining Room
Breakfast is served in the dining room between 8.10 am – 9.00 am. The tables are 735mm in height. All chairs are wooden, without arm rests and the heights of the seats are either 440mm or 450mm.
The carpet has a short pile.
Laundry
There is a launderette approx 1 mile away. An iron and ironing board is available on request.
Shops
Just around the corner at the end of the road (approx 100 metres) there is a Tesco Express open from 6.00 a.m – 11.00 p.m. Just a little further along is the Post Office and just a little further there is a pharmacy.
The town centre is just a two minute level walk away. Many shops and restaurants/cafés are individually owned thus making an interesting town in which to be able to browse.
Sea
The promenade is just a five minute walk away where you will be able to relax and enjoy the beautiful Devon red cliffs and beyond to Portland Bill (Dorset) in a easterly direction and Ladram Bay to a westerly direction.
Leisure Facilities
Sidmouth has a cinema which is conveniently placed at the end of the road (approx 100 metres).
“The Byes” the National Trust Park which the river Sid flows is just approx 30 metres away and winds its way back 1 ½ miles to Sidford. Used by cyclists and pedestrians.
Sports Facilities
Sidmouth has an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, rugby pitch, football ground, croquet and bowls.
Outdoor Facilities
We have a compact tidy courtyard/garden filled with shrubs, flowering pots.
